My Demon

Flashing dagger eyes and a shark’s smile
He comes to me at night
Muscled and naked
And torments my dreams.
We wrestle, he pins me to the ground.
I try to wiggle free, can’t,
Feel his fingers round my throat,
See his eye blaze, feel him squeeze:
Terror.
“Why?” I ask my tormentor
Who smiles: “Because I can.”

And your demon,
When does he come,
What does he say to you?
